[Forward to a Friend]

Anyone recognize this one it sounds like Tavares from the late 70's early 80's but it isn't.
I am guessing it was either late seventies or eighties, the group sounds like Tavares but as yet I haven't been able to find it by Tavares at least not in their greatest hits but the song is great!
I believe the title is "What A Wonderful Thing We had"
I have it on cassette as a radio dub I made many years ago, here are the lyrics.

(Starts with musical intro)
"You've been gone so long...now at last you?re coming home girl
I'm sitting here passing time trying to turn my thoughts in rhyme
It's just my way of telling you how much I've been missing you
Oh Oh Oh baby what a wonderful thing we had
Oh Oh Oh baby what a wonderful thing we had
(short guitar solo)
All this time you've been away, so many things I want to say girl
I can't wait to get you alone, no folks no telephone
then I will be telling you how much I've been missing you Oh baby
what a wonderful thing we had
Oh baby
what a wonderful thing we had
Oh baby
what a wonderful thing we had
Oh baby
what a wonderful thing we had
(funky guitar comes in very rhthmatic overlapped by driving sax solo)
-song fades-

OK I know it's not easy to name the artist by the lyrics so I recorded the song onto my computer from the tape and uploaded it to Badongo.

I know someone will get it if they hear it!So I uploaded it to the Badongo file storage site. I can also email it to anyone willing to try to name it.

-Thanks

You've been gone away so long
Now, at last, you're coming home, girl
I'm sitting here, passing time
Trying to turn my thoughts in rhyme

It's just my way of telling you
How much I've been missing you, baby
What a wonderful thing we have
Ooh, ooh, ooh, baby
What a wonderful thing we have

All this time you've been away
So many things I've wanted to say
I can't wait to get you alone
No folks and no telephone

There I will be telling you
How much I've been missing you, baby
What a wonderful thing we have
Ooh, ooh, ooh, baby
What a wonderful thing we have

You've been gone away so long
Now, at last, you're coming home, girl
I'm sitting here, passing time
Trying to turn my thoughts in rhyme

It's just my way of telling you
How much I've been missing you, baby
What a wonderful thing we have

Dan, I have to tell you that I posted the same question at 3 other oldies forums and none of them even recognized the song.
I really want to thank you you made it look easy while others were stumped. I fyou dont mind my asking how did you happen to find out who the artist was?

I looked up the song title and found a song with almost the same name except for the last word 'Have'.

I took your advice and visited some of the sites you posted the only problem is that they want some high prices for whats out there and only one of their albums is on CD which is an import.
Do yourecall where you saw the title listing (without the word "have"), do you have a book or was it online? I am not sure what country this group hails from since the lead singer has a purely american dialect !

The Fabulous Rhinestones - Rock trio led by keyboardist Martin Grebb (of The Buckinghams, a Chicago rock quintet). Martin Grebb replaced Miccoli (Buckinghams) in 1967

1972 Album - 'The Fabulous Rhinestones'

1973 Album - Freewheelin'

I looked up the title in several places starting with my reference book. Here's the 7" record for sale...

The song is included on the import CD.

The band was called:

The Fabulous Rhinestones

Search for Kal David or The Blue Guitar Restaurant in Palm Springs. Harvey Brooks was the bass player.

That's probably the Fabulous Rhinestones, early-mid 70s, band from Woodstock, (Kal David, Harvey Brooks, Marty Grebb)
